Federal boiler replacement

with a Riello burner . 4 separate pumps was overkill for the small baseboard zones , but we are more geared toward circs than zone valves for our work . Besides , it makes wiring so much more easier using one relay control panel .

We also were able to get the fluepipe pitched correct . I can see a little smoke mark going up the new heater sight door - not a problem anymore . It was kinda tricky maneuvering the piping around the drain lines .

Comments

  • We knew this boiler was on borrowed time

when we were there a few months ago changing the Bock heater . Not soon enough though - it leaked internally and when we pulled the burner we had a flood of muddy water .

The other pic is the wiring . What a mess .

    hey

You got the floor dirty!! :o Can ya clean that up please? It was clean before you started so you musta broke it!! LOL .. Love the spaghetti wiring..must have been a blast to service!! Question though? Why not go with the zone valves and use the taco 400 series control? Just curious, per the norm AWSOME JOB!!!!

    glad to see

you fixed the vent from the water heater, in the pics it looks like it slopes downward slightly. Much better the way you did it.

    But you do need to clean the floor better;}
  • The vent on the heater

was level , no pitch down at all . The pic is deceiving .

We did clean the floor - we worked on a bed of oil dry all day which brought up the muddy mess that was there before we started . We left the place cleaner than when we arrived , and I do not mop floors unless it was me who made the spill . The tiles were all loose and broken anyway .
  • It took me a good 20 minutes

to track down the wiring on this collage , and wiring is my strong suit .

The Taco control for zone valves , does it give you the ability to control 2 zone valves to each circulator in the 4 zone relay ? That seems like something to look into with a system that has multiple zones .

The boiler room is a cast off of the house - I don't think the homeowner ever goes in there unless theres no heat or hot water . The floor was cleaner after we mopped up the crappy water . I'm sure his insurance will cover a new floor , if he even bothers with one . Thanks alot LCHMB , I appreciate the comments .

  • Diamond plate ?

Hey , I asked Heatboy where he gets his , and he never responded . Trade secret maybe ? I definitely want to put the plate on my wall under the stairs for my repipe job . It'll reflect some light too I hope .

Yep , the man gave us the OK to use the IFCs , it's the supply house that don't stock enough of them . We get 6 at a time , till the next week or 2 pass by . I would guess that we coulda saved 20 minutes or so and a few bucks in parts if we used them on this job .

    Thanks alot Scott .

    Salesman

Nice job as usual, I wish I was the salesman for your firm. I would just have a big book of your before and after pictures and say here's how the competetion install them and here's how we do it, which would you prefer?

    if

You are trying to control multiple circulator's (2 zones per circ) then you would have to go with two taco 402's or like I do (figure for the future) use a 402 and a 403. I think if you figure out the price it is about equal. Just another option to your arsenal..;)
BTW I have 4 more boiler install's in crawl spaces with the Burnham LE coming up...:) Want to do them for me since your the king of small places?? :) LOL
  • That would be a

NO on the crawlspace boilers . I'd rather work in a closet , any day . Thanks for asking though .

I like the simplicity of piping boilers with zone valves , but the wiring always comes out a mess for me . And we do have many homes where the wire comes to the boiler hot 110 volts from the thermostat . Not to mention the Levitt homes which break the neutral through the thermostat . We see wacky wiring out here .

    worth a shot

If you change your mind let me know..:) LOL I have found though if you run a 5 wire from the zone control to the zone valve and then run your two wire's from the zone valve to your t-stat it comes out nice and neat.I run a piece of emt to the ceiling to run all of my t-stat wires through. I would also rip all of the line voltage t-stat's out. 2am wake up call..ZAP..what a thought...You could actually remove the voltage and use the 12-2 wire as low voltage. :) Have fun and keep up the nice work. ;) Tell your boss it's time for a raise..LOL
