....with your comment about the boiler manufacturers including the lwco - FACTORY INSTALLED even better!
I can see the MAN's point - it's not required everywhere, so we'll be more expensive in Ohio compared to brand "X", so we're not going to do it!
Well "Poppycock!" I say!! It's time for the manufacturers to step up to the plate. EVERYONE knows that a lwco is a good thing. Show me one manufacturer who doesn't think they SHOULD be required! I bet you can't do it!
So why don't the manufacturers get ahead of the curve, and just include it regardless of the code requirement? I can't believe the cost will be an issue. Maybe some initial approvals will be needed from the various agencies if it's a factory installed device? I don't know.
The bottom line is, this would be a good thing for EVERYONE, especially the end user having another level of safety GUARANTEED!!
Let the marketing department figure out how to blow their own horn about what a wonderful service they are doing for the public.......that should take care of the cost difference.

The only thing I want from a boiler manufacturer
is what they make best - the boiler .
I like being able to decide what brand LWCO , circulators , burner , etc. I prefer to use . I also need the flexibilty to decide where these components should be located on a system , by a home to home basis . Give me a knockdown boiler any day .
As to having the manufacturer ship every boiler out with a LWCO - good idea in theory , but you know that not all manufacturers will jump on the bandwagon . And guess which boiler most contractors will choose in a place with no mandatory cutoff code ?0 -
I hear ya', Ron......
...how about if they offered a choice of which lwco?
I also realize that not every manufacturer will jump on the bandwagon, and some contractors will opt for the "lwco-less" brand to save a couple bucks. That's why we, AND the manufacturers who DO jump on the bandwagon, should scream loudly why the lwco is a necessity. Educate the public so they expect their boiler to have one.
I appreciate your comment about being able to decide yourself which brand to use, and where to locate it. Unfortuneately, you (and most of the people who visit here) are the exception. You believe in using these devices, and realize their importance.
I guess I'm just frustrated by all the installers who refuse to use one, or maybe don't even know what they are. Obviously if all local codes would require them, this whole discussion would be a moot point.

I understand how you feel Starch
Sometimes when I walk into a boiler room and see the mangled mess someone else installed , without a care in the world about safety , codes or accesibility , I almost wish every boiler came premade so the job couldn't get botched up . I guess I learned a long time ago that there will be a greater ratio of hacks to true pros in our trade . I got a few hundred before pics that make me believe it .
I like installing knockdown equipment . No chance of denting the jacket going down the stairs , and you get to set every boiler up exactly the way you want it . With supply houses around here keeping reduced stock , I would be leery of hoping they would have boiler package A set up with all the controls I want , on the given day I need it .
Thanks John , I appreciate your comments also .0
