Cleaning a new system with Sqick or Kek...

my contractor claims that cleaning a new system with Sqick or Kek is not really necessary and may even cause some type of problem and never flushes completely out of the system. any comments....

Your plumber is correct.
Assuming it is a steam boiler, put about 1 cup of TSP per 100,000 BTu's of input into the boier and almost make steam. Drain and rinse and fill with clean water.
Skimming is essential. When no more bubles or "rainbow" colors come out, button her up and your good to go.

I've heard that some boilers have a certain type of seal that you should watch for as far as using petroleum-based cleaners or vinegar.
Tri-Sodium Phosphate is neither, but it seems like it could be kinda harsh (considering the fact that it will strip paint/varnish/grease, etc.). Is there any risk of it 'eating' those seals? On any boiler?0
