Secondary oil filters

With all the small nozzles that are out there now, does anyone have any experience with secondary filters to perhaps install at the fuel unit, rather that just depending on the tank filter to do the job.????
Thank you,
Bill

    Went to double filters

in 1975, triple in 1981. There's no such thing as too many oilfilters, JMO! But, I go 4/4-1/2 years betwen tune-ups and got 15 years out of a nozzle. Current one is 4 years old, FACT!

We had a discussion about this earlier...

... didn't we? We use three filters on the boat in series to ensure that the injectors don't get clogged. Starting with large (30 micron), then 15, then 2. No matter how rough the conditions, the engine always got us home (knock on wood).

IIRC, the openings in diesel injectors are even smaller than the nozzles used in oil burners... so your experience makes a lot of sense.

Our current oil system only has two filters. I may add a third to be on the safe side as the system gets older.

    filters

Been doing it for many years, Wild Bill. I use Nozzle Guard or Gar-Ber spin ons.

    Okay, here's my old solution

    and the current one.

OLD: empty B-4 to act as 'sludge pot' followed by a 'felt-type' (ie. General) followed by a 'spin-on (ie. Garber) at the burner.

NEW: empty b-4, spin-on, Oventrop One pipe heating oil filter with Siku insert, FF 3/8", see here:

    Filters

We have been using a felt filter (the larger 70 size)first and a Wix or Garber at the burner with no problems. We do not sell oil, so the quality of the oil varies. It is mostly bad, that is why we started using dual filters 10 years ago. Westwood does have a dual filter as a package available.
