long steam main

I am working on another building for my landlord that has an original hoffman controled heating system (2-pipe). We replaced all the steam trap elements including the ones in the basement. The problem is that the main snakes all the way around the basement and the 2 radiators at the end take forever to heat. How can I fix this? On a one pipe I would add more vents down there, but would this mess up the operation of the hoffman diffarential loop on this system? Should I add more steam traps bridging the main and the dry return? What is the best solution?

Thanks,

Campo

    You have two options

One is to install a larger crossover trap at that point, and the other is to remove the crossover trap and install one or more large main vents. Neither will affect the Differential Loop. However, it would be well to vent all your mains using the same method- crossover trap or main vents.

Measure the length and diameter of your steam mains and post the info here. If there is more than one pipe size per main, as there so often is on these systems, give us the various lengths and diameters in each main. With this info we can tell you what's needed.
