Expansion tank

I replaced a circulation pump on my system because it was leaking. I was unable to find a professional in my area to do it. I now have heat and it is not leaking but my repief valve builds up pressure. Do I need to do something with the expansion tank. Does it need to be drained or filled. There is not a drain on it but on my boiler on the same side is a circular hole with a plug inside. Should I unscrew the expansion tank and empty it? Next to it is a valve with an adapter on top that has threads in it and next to that is the relief valve. Help
