alarms
Freeze alert offers a service to monitor the home/building temperature and then call a qualified service company to service the unit. www.freezealert.com
Control Products makes a unit that will dial up to 3 numbers with a recorded message stating the building is at a temperature you have previously selected. They have a unit that can be connected to the thermostat control to start or stop the heater or ac unit. Imagine the cold cabin and calling ahead to start the furnace or a warm boat, calling ahead to start the air conditioner. Now if it would make a fresh martini. www.Freezealarms.com
The one I have seen is made in Golden Valley, MN.
A quick check of the web brings up many different manufactures and sources of freeze alarm devices0 -
If you have a monitored home burglar/fire alarm system, your alarm company can install a low temperature sensor as a separate zone on the alarm panel.
If the temperature drops below the setpoint of the sensor, that alarm panel will notify the alarm company that the sensor on Zone X - the temperature sensor - has tripped. Depending on what arrangements you have made with the monitoring company, they can have a list of phone numbers to call for heating service or they can call you or other family/friends contacts.
Having the alarm company calling the local heating contractor with a 'no heat, critical low temperature' call may be just the thing for your weekend house while you are on that Caribbean cruise.0 -

Home Automation Inc
has a series of home automation/security systems that offer very nice programable capabilities (the entry level OmniLT product at www.homeauto.com would probably work well for many vacation homes). You can connect to a monitoring service and also have dial out messages. With the weblink software you can also have it send email alerts when certain conditions happen. HAI also has a full line of communicating thermostats so you can call into you system and have it change the setpoint of your thermostats at anytime.0 -
Freeze alarms
One winter I set up a thermostat with a low setting so the normally open contacts were across the phone line. Should the temp drop below the thermostat setting, the phone line would appear to be busy. Of course you have to keep check ing the phone line for a 'busy' condition.0 -

Right here in my hot little hands is my third sensaphone 2000. what a great unit! from the internet I can see real time what the temp is at my rental property, measure the runtime on my boiler{in minutes} and watch for power outages and even see if the boiler has tripped out on low water or if the primary reset has tripped. Last winter I was enroute to the property before the tenants ever knew that there was a problem! I am 100 percent sold on there product and the support that they offer! any questions call me 203-426-1579...........No I dont work for them either...0 -

though there was this max water flow protection device...
advertized in PM magazine for a year but i cant remember the name - tried searching and came up empty
what it did was, protect the house from pipe bursts by limiting a flow rate to a time, ie will alow the flow rate of a toilet filling for 40 seconds and then cut off the water completely, etc - and it was battery powered0 -
auto dialer and more... attn: Bob Holohan

Bob and other interested Wallies,
The problem is, if a low temperature sensor/caller responds
at 40* or 38* how long will it take to get a response/repair to the property? How about 20 minutes after a heating issue arrises, long before the building temp starts to fall. Why is there a low temp situation? Power outage? The answer is HMGI SilentSentry, specifically for hydronic systems. If you are interested email me at the address above or fax your contact info(303) 238-9209 for an informative video. (only 15 minutes of your valuable time) Thanks Big AL0
