CSA Approves Technical Committee for Hydronic Standard

Toronto, October 29, 2004 --- The Canadian Hydronics Council (CHC) announced today that CSA has approved the Technical Committee for the CSA B214-01 – Installation Code for Hydronic Heating Systems.

The standard, which was released in July of 2001, was developed by a technical subcommittee of hydronics experts with oversight by the CSA B139 Technical Committee on Oil Burning Appliance Standards.

The new technical committee was approved by the CSA Strategic Steering Committee (SSC) on Fire Safety and Fuel Burning and Related Equipment at a meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 2004. Richard Peck of Slant/Fin Ltd/Ltée has been approved as the Technical Committee’s Chair. Dave Hughes of Northern Alberta Institute of Technology will be Vice Chair.

It is expected that CSA will begin populating the committee immediately and the inaugural CSA B214 Technical Committee meeting will take place sometime in January 2005.

Committee membership will include hydronics producers, users, educators, associations and regulators.

The committee’s mandate will be to review the CSA B214 and amend or revise where appropriate. It is the goal of the hydronics industry to see that the standard is referenced
in Part 9 of the 2005 National Building Code by 2006.

According to CSA B214 Technical Committee Chair Richard Peck, “This is an important phase in the evolution of the standard. Now we are empowered to move forward and
build a committee that encompasses all users of this important document.”

CHC Chair John Goshulak added “The creation of the CSA B214 Technical Committee is an important milestone for the hydronics industry as it further validates our efforts to
eradicate poor quality installations and enhance the professionalism of installers and designers.”

The Canadian Hydronics Council (CHC), founded in 1963, is a council within the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating. Its mission is to promote the responsible growth and contribute to the prosperity of the members and their customers in the hydronic heating industry.
