We paid $1.59 for oil on a prepay plan. Propane is around $1.79/gal. The first 100 therms of natural gas cost about $1.15/therm. Electricity is $.13-$.14/kwh

    staten island n.y. no.2 oil 1.94 gal.
Thinking about switching from oil to gas.
Anyone have a formula to convert or compare natural gas per therm to oil per gallon?

    according to the NAOHSM

Fuel eqivalency slide rule $1.94 a gallon of oil compares to $1.38 a therm Nat. Gas

    BUT...

There are other charges on your gas bill that skew this rate.

Gas prices are slower to rise and slower to fall

Only one gas supplier. 100's of oil dealers

Competition is best for the consumer

    All the best

Here's an Excel sheet I use

Price per unit * 100,000 BTU
    ------------------------------- = Cost per 100K BTU
    BTU per unit X Efficiency

    Conversions

For price by million BTU input:

The numbers in brackets are just examples...

    $/KWH * 293 / Efficiency [0.13 @ 98% = $33.63] Elect.

    $/Therm * 10 / Efficiency [1.38 @ 92% = $15.00] NG

    $/Gallon * 10.53 / Efficiency [1.79 @ 92% = $20.48] LPG

    $/Gallon * 7.2 / Efficiency [1.94 @ 80% = $17.45] #2 Oil

    $/Cord * 0.0526 / Efficiency [150 @ 50% = $15.79] Wood
