Set back & outdoor re-set

in THE MAIN WALL
a Buderus Boiler & Indirect with outdoor re-set, (Logomatic). The customer has a set back tstat that he put in himself and he is very attached to it. I tried to tell him it is better to let the logomatic control set back the water temps than to set back according to air temp. with his Lux home depot special. I was not very succesful at expressing myself about this subject. Could some of you help me put into words that the common man could understand that which I know intuitively to be true, and explain the difference and benefits to using the Logomatic rather than the tstat setback.
