Taco LWCO

Phil_6

I was at a job yesterday with a hot water boiler with a Taco probe style lwco. The boiler was off and the lwco indicated a low water condition, however the water was fine and when I jumped it out the heat came right on. I'm going to pull out the probe later and clean it or replace the unit, but has anyone else had problems with these?
I didn't install this one but have used them in the past without any problems that I recall. Most supply houses around here sell the Guard Dog so that's what we usually use.

Thanks

    Been there

There is a "water purity" dial in the LWCO. In the instructions it tells you that you may have to adjust this dial.

We had the same thing happen on a new install about a year ago. The LWCO decided after a few weeks of running that the water was "too pure?"..........

I bet that is what is happening here as well.

    lwco

Same here, brand new system at a friends house and the first cold night - no heat due to taco water sensor. I turned the dial and it came back on so I left it. Then about 2weeks later same thing. We put in about over 100 boilers a year and the M&M Rb122 hasn't let us down yet. I tried the taco because it is compact and it matches the other components but now I've got a bad taste in my mouth. Plus the instructions don't even mention what this is for or how to set it.

    wheel

Hmm I'll check that out. The first contractor wasn't kind enough to leave any paperwork when he evaporated. I didn't get back over there today, and the supply house only had the M&Ms in stock anyway so maybe I'll switch it if it doesn't work.

And thanks for the tip, guys. You learn something every day, don't you?

    Pipe Dope

Had problems with too much pipe dope floating around fowling the probe when we installed the purge below the lwco on a few. Went back where the purge is above and no problems , so far. The purge now also flushes the probe as well as air....
