... I guess this shows that even expensive homes are not immune from hack jobs - or was this a homeowner install? I mean, even 15 years ago folks knew better than to hook up a non-condensing boiler to a system like that w/o boiler protection, right?

Never mind the rather creative distribution manifolds... yep, a complete repipe it is! The prices for those stainless/brass circulation pumps should be interesting given where commodity prices have been going lately.

Given that the Vitodens is stainless on the inside, I presume that the HX is a belt-and-suspenders approach to protecting the boiler? I look forward to the after pictures!

Not Pretty

On a forensic inspection this AM, I found this wonderful example of majestic boiler piping and radiant distribution. The system is 15 years old and on boiler #2. The PB piping is directly connected to the boiler, and the system has both radiant floors and a 2nd fl using CFTBB. All running on the same temperature with no controls or mixing. The expansion tank is ready to pop and leaking from O2 corrosion. The new owners' will remedy this situation with a repipe, heat exchanger and a Vitodens. BTW, the home is selling for over 1.5 mil.
