and would like to know the range of water volume in a typical home steam bolier. Any statistical help would be appreciated.
We are particularly looking at the volume range for old cast iron boilers vs the new high efficiency boilers

A safe, effective cleaner and treatment for a
home steam boiler system. This is not an easy problem and if we can develope the product from our industrial knowledge, we feel that we can help those of you that care for these systems and are aware of the many problems associated with dirty or fouled systems.
It is a real problem when the existing boiler is an old cast iron behemoth which is replaced by one of these new high efficiencey small foot print boilers. The junk which comes out of the steam pipes easily fouls these new boilers
and must be cleaned out or replaced.
I know there is a huge number of these replaced each year and we are working on a solution.0 -
As an educated guess
I would say the old steam beasts we take out range between 20 to 30 gallons , including the return piping water . A new steamer would be in the range of 10 to 15 gallons . This is just strictly residential steam , which we replace alot more often than commercial steam .
You're right George , theres a huge number of steam boilers replaced each year . We just did one yesterday . Can't wait to try a new cleaning product in one of these old systems .0 -
There wouldn't be
so much mud if people would start doing their annual maintenances a little more thoroughly!!! Flush everything and clean and check your LWCO. I see guys changing the noz and OF on a steam system and think they're done. Oh well, nuf of my bitsin, good luck, that's America, find a way to make something easier and better and they will beat a path to your door. Who heard of duct cleaning 20 years ago??0 -
Most boiler manufacturers
publish the water content of their boilers. The water content, to the water line of their steam boilers, is approx. 75% of the published water content.
Ex: Weil SGO 3 - 9 sections. .95 - 2.55 GPH. Water boiler content 14.6 - 29.6 gal. Steam boiler content 10.7 - 21.2 gal.
Columbia (Utica) 3 - 7 sections. .65 - 2.75 GPH. Water content 10.5 - 22.5 gal. No steam #s in literature.
Hope this helps.0
