For a log cabin being constructed in Washington state I am putting a Munchkin boiler in the 4 feet high crawl space and an infloor hydronic heating system. The hydronic heating installer says lowboys are not as desirable as a standard 60 gallon water heater for the cabin which will be above the boiler in the kitchen pantry. This will take up a lot of pantry space. If I go with a lowboy, which should I choose and will I have regrets?

Why
does he say they are less desireable? I'm about to install a Superstore Low boy with a Munchkin. I don't anticipate any problems. WW

Do you mean
an indirect or gas fired water heater?
Yes the lowboy, gas fired, are very inefficient. Not enough transfer area and flue length in the tank. I think State is the only manufacture of a 40 fired low boy.
As for indirects, several manufactures offer horizontal. I have a Phase 3 in my home 32 gallon. Works fine. I believe Crown offers one now, as well as Buderus and Viessman. Maybe others.
