Burnham V8 Tappings

Okay. Thanks for the quick response. So then do I need a street elbow to still allow the swing door to open? I have no room to go down, so it would have to go hard left to clear everything.

Also, I noticed your factory drawings for an indirect HW Heater utilizing that tapping shows a check valve instead of an actual loop of pipe back up to the waterline. Any pros or cons there? Intutively I like the idea of an actual loop of water rather than relying on a valve that could get stuck open in the future. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    HW Baseboard Loop

This question ties into the one I asked on another thread concerning the V8 "R" tapping.

I have some heavy duty cast iron baseboard I would like to install in my basement on a HW loop off my V8 steamer.

I was going to use the "T" tapping at the rear for the supply and then run around the basement (below the steamer's water level) and return in the "R" tapping.
I had indicated an issue with piping coming out of the "R" tapping rendering the swing door inoperative.

My question is can I return via the "G" tapping instead?? I was thinking of removing the boiler drain and then reinstalling it off a Tee while utilizing that tapping for the return of my HW loop.

If I do that does it matter that the supply and return will be on the same side of the boiler (albeit on opposite ends)? That is, is it better as far as maintaining even heat throughout the sections for the supply and return to be diagnolly oppposite one another as the "T" and "R" would have been versus the proposed "T" and "G" or is this irrelevant?

Also, since the entire baseboard loop will be below the waterline I assume I will need to loop back up to the waterline (or at least to the height of the Hartford Loop) no matter where I chose to return, right?

Your advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The answer to that is simply "No". The water will short cycle through tha right side nipple port and out the rear. The "R' tapping is the correct return tapping.
