boiler replacement

I am involved in a bid to replace an old American Radiator Red Flash #3-8-6, series 10-B-N. This old guy failed when the pump/level control stuck in the up position allowing the boiler to run low on water and finally crack the sections (pucker). There was no secondary lwco. There is no hartford loop. the condensate is returned to one of the middle sections by gravity. My questions are these: does the return need to piped to a middle section, or can an end tapping be used? Any recomindations for a new boiler? This was a 6 section boiler.

Short response
No, different mfgs. show condensate returning to different taps, that is the least of your decisions. FIRST and perhaps you are already doing this is to size the new steam boiler according to the installed radiation. If you do that you may find you don't need 6 sections. Whatever boiler your local wholesaler has had no complaints with will work fine if you size it right and install it strictly following the near boiler piping plan. If you have wet returns replace that pipe with the new install.0 -
Thanks, Dale I appreciate all the input I can get.0
