Munckin roaring like at train

I have a T 80 Munckin which all of a sudden started MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMing like a very loud truck. At first I thought it was a truck praked outside but then I realized it was the boiler? I hadn't heard it for a few days and then again tonight the thing started roaring? Any ideas on how to tame this beast?

    Both

I am both the owner and contractor. I own the new home and installed the Munckin boiler.

    Natural or LP?

What is the gas pressure coming in?

What were your combustion numbers when you set the boiler up?

    Munckin specs natural gas

When I installed the unit 6 months ago. THe manifold presure was 13" water column. My combustion specs were CO 100 ppm and CO2 was 9.3%. But now that you ask some questions I am thinking maybe the problems is the regulator. Quick story. I bought the home new but before is ws finished I was able to finagle my way into installing my own mech room, the rest of the system was already completed along with alot of the equipment, including the Munckin boiler. Anyway, the gas is a 2 lb system with regulators to drop the pressure at the fixtures. I did question the fact that the regulator is with in 2 feet of the Munckin which according to the installation guide is a NO NO! The regulator needs to be 10'down stream of the appliance. I have had no lound noises unit the last 3 days. Though I have already replaced the Combustion fan! Thanks Mark

  • Not again!

    Ouch!!!

Jeffery, is this in Steamboat? No trains run through there:-)
My first thought is the fan may be out of ballance.

Why the 10' rule from regulator to boiler?

It's a good heat source. Everyone tells me so.

    Train Station

The way this thing sounds you would think I lived right next door to the train station! The problem is very speratic, once a day? When it is making the awful racket though, my neighbors think a volcanoe is erupting-it is very lound. One of these days I will have a chance to really figure it out. I did do an anylazation last night and everything is running perfect. Gary how is it going. I do not know shy the regulator is a problem within 10' of the unit I will find out. I am installing the Vitodens on the system we spoke about in Boston. I can't wait to fire the system-Warmboard and Vitodens! Hope all is well See ya

P.s. I passed both the installer and designer certifications in Boston!!!!!! Yea

    noise

Where the problem is sporadic, I would look closely at the condensate drain: If the condensate is backing up into the boiler it will have a difficult time operating, especially at low fire.
You have said that you had to replace the combustion blower. The most common cause of blower failure is re-circulation of the exhaust gas. Make sure that the poor thing can breathe fresh air.

  • You got lucky.

    Jefff,

    Going GREAT here. Thanks.

Such a deal. The builder specified everything right down to the heat source? Thank God you came to the rescue and did it up right.

Congratulations for your achievement in the RPA’s System Showcase. That award speaks volumes to me. From what I’m getting,,, the HTP Munchkin heat source is a good unit. That has not been my experience. However, you go with what you've got:-)

Reading your previous post on RPA’s site I have a deep appreciation for what you are doing. Quality before price. Remember you're not looking to get every job.

AHHHHH Steamboat. My first radiant job. To live peacefully among hominids as yourself must be sinfully pleasurable.

Congratulations for passing the very tough RPA exams. Be proud. You deserve preferential treatment;-)
