Munchkin Start-Up Question

Indicates a bad cable or cable connection. Try pulling the plug out if the gas valve and spreading the pins ever so slightly so they make better contact. Reconnect and reset and try again.

It could be a bad board, or a bad cable too..

Good Luck

Just installed a Munchkin T80 and followed the instructions. Natural Gas model. Checked gas pressure and it is 8. Get error code F18. If powered off and reset it will start and run for a cycle, but next time the indirect or the wall thermostat call for heat it goes back into the error mode. If you reset it right away it will get the error again, but if you wait about 20 minutes and then reset, it will start and run fine. Checked all the wiring very carefully. Only thing left is the control board right? I can get help tomorrow, but tired of throwing logs on the fire this weekend. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    CB

i dont have the correct munchkin manual, however,

is it possible a spill switch (flue sensor) is causing the problem due to bad draft or insufficent combustion air ?

    Weezy...

from the manual, "Gas valve not corrrectly connected/internal fault. Just before ignition, a test is performed on the gas connection. If there is a failure in the gas valve connection and or the gas valve is not connected, this fault code will appear."

I have a manual in my desk here at home if you ever need one:-)

just came back from Raven looking for those fancy valves

HotRod showed us when he got back from ISH the quadruple port Primary secondary ball valve....I thought he had said webstone was the manufacturer...Hmmmm......oh thanms for the offer for the munchkin trouble shooter guide ,like everything else We see these things Years after we get wind of them:) although i dont have the guide it sounded like run...cut out reset...having a pdf of the guide would even work for me though....in about a month or so We may have a class for vision 1 and 111 and the munchkin :) i have sorta talked the distributor into the idea, call me early enough for dinner buh i'd still like to sit thru a class on munchkins before some one calls me to run fix it for free,:)

In my case, the Munchkin started to show various error messages at various times, depending on which way I was breathing, but they were all due to a wobbly low voltage connector. HTP sent me a new wiring strap and I had to replace the whole thing, which took a while. It's this bad-hair-day collection of wires all going into two connectors that plug into the control board (some sensors have one wire to one connector and the other one to the other connector!). The wires are draped all over the boiler innards and are only partly organized by cable ties (all of which I had to clip off and replace). Anyway, the Munchkin is quite happy now.

    My customer's 199M had a recurring F-16

Friday I called the guru at my local supplier and explained that I'd fiddled with the air switch for the third time and it wasn't responding. He said to pull the control board (2 screws and 9 connections) and bring it to him and he would reprogram it to make the air switch redundant. Done and done. My time=4+ hours. But whose counting? I LIKE BEING A BETA TESTER, IT MAKES ME FEEL NEEDED!

    No fix yet

    Thanks everyone!

I contacted the dealer and manufacturer today. Not seen this problem before and they are scratching their heads. We performed your suggestions, Mark E. Thanks!

Chuck at HTP Inc., said to disconnect the outdoor reset to see if that changes anything. He also said that a bad natural gas regulator (gas company part) that causes a spike over 14" WC could cause the F18 error. He said he did not suspect the control board at this point. At least we have more stuff to try. Chuck is going to talk with their engineering department tomorrow for suggestions.

    Thanks again!

    Gee, that's a new

problem. Never heard of that before". If I had a nickel for every tech support person that told me that I wouldn't be swinging 24" RIGID's for a living. Chuck is one of the best tech guys around. Be patient, it will be resolved.

I am patient and so is the homeowner. Heat and hot water during winter in the Rocky Mountains is not necessary, but most of us like it. I have no doubt the problem will be resolved.

    Startup

It would appear that you have a defective gas valve that will heat up while it is open, then fail to re-open until it cools. Chuck left you the part number on your voice mail several hours ago.
If you have any further questions, please give me a call at 800-323-9651 ext. 157

Thanks Guy! I contacted the dealer, right after receiving the voice mail with the part number. A new gas valve should be on its way now.

    Best Regards

    Sorry, but I can't resist...

I bet the boys in Fallujah saw a few "recurring F-16's" as well...

    Take Care, PJO
