Getting baseboard to heat all the way across

we have a 1920s house with one-pipe steam heat. About 15 yrs ago previous owners bumped out the kitchen, installing a baseboard unit in place of original radiator. Unfortunately by the time we moved in the baseboard never got any heat. At the end of last season we had the boiler replaced and contractor repiped the baseboard--changing it to two-pipe instead of one. It now gets heat, but much more slowly then the rest of the house and never all the way across, by the time thermostat turns the boiler off the kitchen's still cold.

The baseboard has an adjustable air vent which is wide open. I've been gradually adjusting the air vents on other radiators, closing them more each day so that the baseboard is first to heat up instead of last. This isn't seeming to have much effect though.

Anything else I should try before calling my contractor to take another look? System is running beautifully otherwise.

Thanks!
