if he drinks it. It can take out your liver if YOU drink it. To the best of my knowledge, it has no ill effects on the heating system components unless you have some aluminum components in the system. Aluminum requires a different pH and inhibitors.
If you have it in the system, make darned sure our backflow prevention system is functional and tested annualy. If your glycol backs into the city water systen for WHAT ever reason you can be held liable for clean up costs.

Just say no to auto
EG. And even the more common PG automotive antifreeze. It is blended for a different application and most boiler installation manuals as well as the glycol manufactures warn against it's use.
It's the silicates, mainly, in automotive anti freeze that will coat and foul HX surfaces, and the silicate based inhibitors will attack pump seals, etc in hydronic applications.
Get the right stuff, it's worth the extra bucks!
