How's this for ironic?

My wife and I rent a second-floor (attic) apartment, the owners live on the first floor. Our apartment is extremely hot; indoor temps average 88 to 92 in the summer, even if we leave our windows open during the day. The landlords have repeatedly harassed us with their demand that we leave our windows open no more than a few inches on days rain is forecasted. We told them it gets too hot (we have 2 cats in the apartment). Their harassment on this matter got so bad we had to go to a lawyer to thwart their attempt to inspect our apartment for POSSIBLE water damage. The husband (wife too) are borderline paranoid. I have never had a house or apartment water damaged from rain coming in a window (at worst, just a wet sill). The husband claimed that enough water could come in that it could "pour through our ceiling, start and electrical fire and endanger our child's life."
Well, they have put the home up for sale and it is under contract. The real estate agent contacted us to ask how many smoke detectors we have in our apartment.
Then, she told me that the landlords have NO smoke detectors on the first floor.
Unbelievable. The landlord tells me he's worried about rain starting an electrical fire, but the jerk never thought to put smoke detectors in the very apartment where his kid sleeps. (They're being installed now because it's required because of the sale.)
Is this ironic or what?
