I am dealing with two Weil Mclain WGO-4 boilers. Both unit's are packaged boiler's with Becket burners. They both came through fired with 1.20@80b nozzles. The unit run's great with a 1.20@80b but I wanted to downfire the unit to a 1.00@80b and all I end up with is smoke and sputter. The flame is very lazy and roll's around the chamber. The burner has a f-3 head on it which shouldn't be a problem. I have checked z dimension's, pump pressure, tried to adjust it out with air. The only thing I can possibly think of is the static plate.....Weird thing is if I downfire it to a 85@80b the unit run's beautiful? I even tried two nozzles in case I had a bad one. Any thought's or something I am missing. Thanks...

confused ??
Curious? If the chamber is designed for a 120-80B why would you want to down fire it?

Because although a heat loss was done on it, the boiler is short cycling. I was hoping to get a longer firing cycle out of it. The 1.20 is the max firing rate and I hate to run a system on max if not needed..0 -
Boiler Firing
Can you tell us what the Pump pressure is?
Yes I have seen some weird static plate stuff as well as the low firing baffle (at your firing rates this should not be used)But check to make sure that is not there.
Also what is the CO2% and the excess air? Any Co? Are the Nozzles all the same brand?
thanks0 -
sure
I am using the Delavan nozzle, the pump pressure is 100lbs as called for with this unit. I am unable to get any co2 or excess air reading's when I fire with the 1.00@80a do to the fact it run's so bad. (don't dare leave it running long enough). There is no low fire baffle in it.0 -
Weil McLain 4 section
The Weil Mclain gold four section boilers I put in came with a f4 head on the Beckett AFG and 1.25 80 B nozzles @ 100 psi. You may need to change the head to get the air flow where it needs to be at a smaller firing rate. Give Beckett a call @ 1-800-oil-burn and tell them what you're up to.0 -
Downfire of the Vanities
So what did happen, with the downfire? Did it work?I have a similar situation, way oversized boiler with a sideshot, would love to downfire, but...... not if I'm going to babysit.I recently read a great post by Alan R. Mercurio , about his service routine a must print and adapt.
Peace Out0 -
try
a 1.00-70a,pump pressure should be 155psi I believe0 -
a riello
