Do I need a boiler \"bypass\"?
Hi, My question is would a boiler "bypass" help with this situation? I am heating a 1200 sq ft home with a force hot water one pipe monoflo system which feeds fin type units. I'm using a control with both high and low limits. I was told that this was a better way of doing it as the boiler didn't have to "cold start" each time. I have a "bock" for my domestic. When the themostat calls for heat the circulator will come on as long as the low limit is up to temp. As soon as the cold water returns to the boiler the circulator drops out and stays out until the temp returns to the low limit. This will do this a couple of times until the water returning is hot enough so as not to lower the boiler temp. Is this a normal thing? If not would a "bypass" help? Thanks Live/Learn0 -
it will short cycle...
which isn't good, a bypass is better, a thermostatic mixer/bypass is still better, and best, is primary/secondary/varispeed injection with outdoor reset - via a tekmar 361 - and with the current fuel costs rise, will pay for itself in one or two seasons

if your system is 3/4\" pipe and less then 100kbtu,
you can use a taco RadiantMixingBlock (RMB) which has the tekmar built-in - and will be a less expensive install

the dash in the taco-hvac is part of the link - grab it all0 -
boiler bypass
Thanks for your responce. Could I install a 3/4" bypass with a ballcock value (for control)? My main is 1" and my fin feed/returns are 3/4". Thanks Live/Learn0 -
for bypass/flow controll..
see if you cant get a thermostatic one, if you want to do fixed, tne use a globe valve, ball valves arent very goo for flow control since they only cut the flow near the end and then real fast,
make sure you put the globe valve in the correct flow direction, from bottom to top, ie if you look into the valve, one side is higher inside and you can see the valve stem - that is the water exit point, feed the water in from the other side
if you go to a plumbing supply instead of the HOME-DEsPOT and tell them what you want to do, they will give you the correct one, dont go there durring the heavy morning trade hours, try one hour before they close on a tue or wed - and they should be very helpfull0
