WM P368
Great boiler!!! No reason for this unless techs are missing something. Make sure burner is set to factory specs: 1.00x80A nozzle at 100PSI. Make sure proper head is on burner and that draft is set right. This should eliminate any burner related problems. Is fuel system and chimney system OK? There is nothing complicated or of rocket technology with this system. We have hundreds of them out there with minimal problems. Most likely is a human error or fuel situation. Call in an independent WM dealer and have it checked out.

WM 368 sooting
Call a "GOOD" Oil Heat Tech. Probly only needs a cleaning and tune up. Should be done annually. 368's are tight little boilers, once they start sooting they go down hill pretty fast. If it is sooting the chinney base could be stopped up...dangerous shut it down and call an oil tech.0 -

may need additional outside air. how big is the room its in and how tight is it? common problem nowdays as people are refinishing basements to get all the living space they can out of there homes and not thinking of the amount of air needed for combustion.0 -
Just had one plug up last week. Found the target had collapsed enough to impinge the flame.0 -
What is the correct head or retention ring?0 -

That is a great little boiler. I have a 468 in my own house, which I just serviced this weekend. (we are selling the house- I had to!)
Is it a cold start boiler: is the boiler cold until a heat demand is put to it? Those boilers will get a whitish, crusty buildup if they are a cold start and have large inrushes of cold water from the radiation. The boiler sweats inside, collecting what I believe to be sulphur and other particulate from the flue gasses. Once that buildup reaches a certain level it blocks the flue passages, and the sooting begins. There is a smell associated with this phenomenon that most of us oil people know: It's that " This isn't going to be good" smell.0 -

Just one more thing- I have found that in most cases, the "68" series boilers can be fired .25 gallons per section: ie a 368 works well with a .75 x 80A, a 468--1.00X 80A. Obviously I like the Delavan A in this application.0 -

I cleaned it-oil filter was like a tar pit, air band set at 6, lots of back presure out the inspection port after saw & vac, leaking gasket? at front of boiler-have to get a new seal. Do these run with this much back pressure???0 -

This has to be one of the worst boilers to cold start or shut off in the summer. They need a GOOD brushing and once dried out brush again. They generally run great with an .85 x 80 A(H) nozzle at 100psi. An F3 retention head is used. If they stay warm and are serviced annually they are great to service. If shut off for the summer count on it plugging up. Another issue questioned already is air for combustion? Has the boiler room been recently petitioned? Is the burner fan clean?
