In the basment there's no Broomell system.A few years ago (like 8)we put in a Burnham,to replace the old boiler.I have been up an down the line and see know f&t traps,no drip lines,no feeder pumps, condensate pumps, just risers and returns,.On the H. loop the returns, come in two times, both pipes vented, also two reduced sized supply tap into the loop, one has a pluged tee the other vented.Ok,for the vapor system)(page 255 Lost Art)...it must be long gone, cause there's only a boiler down there, the new one.Now i kept looking and noticed all the supply valves are standard radiator valves, not quintuple(oh boy).I have about 25 radiators a few unhooked,3 floors in the the house, all but 2 on the 1st floor get hot same thing on the 2nd floor all but 2 radiators get hot,the 3rd floor is spotty, the colder it gets the more spottier its gets.I have been reading and from what i see, this is no longer a vapor system, does anyone agree ?If not do i need to go ahead and replace he elbows with traps&install an f&t trap. Also are the those mains supposse to go into the loop, and if so doses one need the to be vented, the on thats vented, has a cold spot in it(which has 2 rad not working).any ideas?

    It's still Vapor

but as often happens, someone has worked on it without knowing that.

The system was originally vented into the chimney via the regulator, and a condensing radiator kept steam out of the chimney. Obviously that's all gone now. You need to vent each steam main and each dry return before they drop below the boiler's water line. For your steam mains, measure their length and diameter and we can tell you what's needed. The dry returns can probably use Gorton #1 or Hoffman #75 vents.

I'd also control the boiler's pressure with a Vaporstat, set to cut out at 8 ounces or so.
