Typical Cycle Time

What is the typical cycle time for a steam boiler serving a one pipe steam system? My boiler typically runs for 90 minutes, rasing the temp in the room where the thermometer is only 3 to 4 degrees. This doesn't seem right to me. The boiler is an old WM, at least 50 years old. Is it time for a new one?

Take a look at \"Is my thermostat defective?\" thread
3 or 4 degrees is alot of temperature swing.

If your boiler is taking 90 minites to raqise the builng 2 to 3 degrees you may have an under sized or fired boiler or the steam pressure is o low. If that is not the problem check your main vent valves, they may be defective and at the same time you might want to install new or larger vent valves on te radiators.
If the air is not vented from the system quickly it will take the steam much longer to enter and fill the radiators.
