Nozzle bad right away

Wayco Wayne_2

a Buderus Boiler with a Riello burner. Nozzle clogged right away. I saw on other posts that a .5 gpm nozzle could be more suseptable to clogging. What's the deal?? I installed a new filter before starting it. It never fired correctly. Was the clog from something I could of done or from the factory? I don't work on oil burners at all. I had to pay someone to start it for me. What a bummer. WW

    If you have no experience

with oil burners figure the start up cost into your next bid.

    Less liability , less frustration.

    it does happen

It could have been a bad nozzle.. It does happen, but if your installing you need someone to come in and set the system up properly. I have yet to find a boiler out of the box that is good to go. For a few buck's you will save your boiler, save your money and possibly save a life..:) IMHO...

You should only handle a nozzle by

the hex on the body. Even if your hands are spotless, 'yeah, right' the oil from your skin can foul a strainer, FACT!

If you don't have the testing equipment,

like Testo or other, so you can check for zero smoke, co2, draft, etc. then you should not be firing up a new boiler. Factory settings are often not good enough to keep if running good and clean.

Riellos have Dont Doit built right into them...

nothing personal they just prefer someone who they can rely on to put their burners into operation correctly. See it looks bad if they dont go. when i trust someone who says the fuel oil was delivered and waste hours of my time thinking this thing Has to Got!be out of oil....it is my fault for taking their word as the truth. it cost ME.i share this with you..........i immediately figured it isnt getting oil..it wasnt. the oil was delivered to the house next door.

i found that if the strainer in the pump is really bad, most likely some of that sludge may get into the firing assembly. on the riello i like to jump 5 and 6 and hook up the jet line outside the burner and flush it in a bucket. some of the real old oil tanks have a ton of sludge in them, and some of the riello's run a .50 which is easy to clog. so keep the oil end clean as possible cuz it dont take much to clog them. oh, and never touch the sintered filter on the nozzle hold the plastic case and drop it in.

    I do have

the testing equipment, but I gotta get it running first. This wouldn't even fire to start with. Why would I even think nozzle. My lack of experience is a hindrance. I'm looking for a class to take so I'm not so vulnerable, and also because my friend who backs me up on these things is moving.

    Nice job, well done!

And for the record, Riello's are not fool proof! 29 years around them and writing a book has taught me that! FACT is, NOTHING is!

    Oil

    Hi Wayne,

Nice lloking job. How are you liking the Pro-Press. I don't have any experience with oil but I have two guys who are experienced with oil and well versed on the Budrus/Riello combination. Call me if I can help you out. -DF

    Block use

Job looks neat, concrete blocks have no strength when the holes are horizontal and crush easily the way you have them set. Use the 8" block with the holes vertical and put 2" solids on top.

  • Could the positive pressure over fire

affect the nozzle inside the chamber ? Maybe it baked the nozzle end closed ?

    Ha!

I've been working the Homeowner. He's very cautious and not ready for the indirect yet. Somedaymaybe. WW

    Thanks Dan

The propress has made me a better man. Taller, stronger and better looking. Except that I've forgotten how to solder. I saw a supply house has a kit on sale now that has smaller jaws for much less money. I've been after local supply houses to start carrying the fittings so I can get them closer to where I work. Keeping enough of everything I need is a chore in itself. Thanks for the offer of your oil guys. I'll keep that in mind. WW

    .50 nozzle

I had three Buderus 115/21 boilers with Riello burners that I had problems with in a two month period, all were started with good filters, new tanks and oil piping.
they would not burn rite, I changed the nozzles and set them up with a PCA55 and they would foul in about a month.
I changed filters to two Garbers in series and the problems went away.

    .50 nozzle blocking

i like the garber filter but use an empty general 700 ahead of it to catch the nastys from the tank [older tank] before it gets to the garber seems to run the whole year

    Final pictures

Here's the final picture on the install. The lady of the house was very complimentary and said if she could, she would cut the panel down and frame it and hang it on her living room. It's nice to hear things like that. My oil friend who got me going said I should switch to Beckett since it works at a lower pressure and has a larger orifice for the same capacity. What do you think?

    Install

Install looks good. Thanks for the pictures.

Based on the nozzle size of .50, I believe the boiler is a G115/21. When it is time to do the indirect I suggest the S-120 Tank (32 gallon).

    old post pic on nozzel...

get carburetor cleaner from you local auto parts store, so if your in a jam, you can take the nozzle apart and clean the angular slots in the pintal threads leading to the swirl chamber – if the fuel don’t spin, it’s useless
