i'm replacing freshly painted steam radiators and i can't seem to get the compression fittings to seal....i used pipe thread compound on the male threads ,the mating surfaces seem too be clean the radiators are pitched etc....are there any tricks to this....
also, the gas burners for the steam system boiler will ignite when I first crank up the theromstat, but if I lower it, when it tries to ignite later after it's been off for a bit....i just hear the igniter clicking away...I let it try to light until it seems like it's taking too long then I shut it off....any ideas????
THANKS

If you are re-using a union joint that has been together for a long time first make sure you have the very same rad in the same location. Then make sure you have it positioned the same way it was . (after painting you could have it reversed and not notice easily) Wiggle the joint a bit as you tighten the nut to help find the spot it was in origionally. Also try a little teflon compound on the mating surfaces. That seems to work for me.0
