need to tap a new air vent hole

I replaced all the air vents on my radiators with some Gorton Valves since they were all really old. I have one radiator that actually strips down the threads on the new Gorton valve when I try to screw it in so it doesn't stay; yet I can screw the old vent back in for some reason and that stays. Don't know why this happens. So I figure I might need to tap a new hole or somehow repair the old hole. How do I go about doing this and what tools do I need?

tap
Just buy a 1/8 NPT pipe tap at your hardware store and gently clean up the female threads. Should be OK, unless the hole becomes too big.
If it does, just put a 1/8 pipe plug in it, and drill and tap another hole nearby.0
