Hat's off to Bradford White

Well, it finally happened. A tank failure under warranty & it's the older style - prior to FVIR and insulation changes. We'd been told that if we encountered a warranty situation, we'd be charged the difference for the upgrades. Bummer, right? I wasn't looking forward to telling that to a customer & had pretty much decided I would have to eat the upcharge or risk losing a customer.

Bradford White (I sense Mike Gordon's influence here) decided to stand tall and swap out 100% for any failures under warranty. Upon checking with local supply houses this morning, they're the only tank manufacturer who has decided to provide a 100% warranty.

Speaks volumes about how BW views their relationship with contractors.

    That would earn my business!

Nothing like a manufacturer who stands behind their products.

    Bradford White warranty

I would not get excited just yet, I have found that Bradford White promises one thing and then you get far less when dealing with warranty issues. Lowell Thiesen, Thiesen Plumbing Inc.

    Tell my dad

Dad was amused to find he named his only son after a water heater.

My sister, A.O. Smith, has issues however.

    A interesting company...

...bought by Southcorp in the early 90's then left for dead when Southcorp bought American. Despite being something like 3x smaller than American at the time, BW prospered in the ensuing years, growing tremendously.

Unlike American, B&W's distribution focus appears to have been with the traditional wholsesaler distribution channel. Not going after the big box sales probably paid off in spades as wholesalers switched to BW instead of helping support their own competition.

State and AO Smith both do not charge extra for that either. The only one that charges the extra fee is rheem and ruud
