It's about time! Why does common sense things such as this take so long for public officials to respond to.
Why do people have to die before simple things like testing appliances for CO are implemented?
Why can't the industry be more pro-active on CO? Your there to do a fall check out anyway. Why don't they make CO testing manditory? Just wondering!
  • Look more closely

Before you jump to conclusions, check the facts.

A "contractor" was building a deck over a "direct vent" boiler outlet. He covered the termination completely with plastic so he wouldn't have to clean it out after he finished the job.

He apparently didn't shut off the appliance.

Testing wouldn't have caught this. A CO detector would have, hopefully.

    ?

Why was the appliance able to run with a blocked vent?

    I'd really like to know.

  • I don't know what boiler it was

I saw the termination in a picture, it resembled a dryer vent.

I've seen boilers with draft hoods installed this way, and the spill switch bypassed. No power venter, no B vent, just a dryer vent.

I sure hope this boiler was installed correctly. There have been enough problems here, already.
