Creeping heat in baseboard from steam boiler.

We installed a new zone off of the existing steam boiler a couple of years ago modeled after Dan's piping diagram. Everything was perfect for two heating seasons, now the zone is creeping on it's own. I figured it was dirt on the spring check valves, so we replaced them. It didn't work. Any suggestions on the problem? Is using a zone valve a no-no? Taco's new ESP is a positve closing valve.
