only half the radiators gets hot???

got a call today that only half of the radiators on a one pipe steam system get hot. not half the quantity, half of each actual radiator. lady says the boiler is short cycling too. could this all be from possibly the main vent?

    You need to find out what is cycling the boiler off; could be the PressureTrol, could be low water cut-off, could be a stat-depends on what you've got in the system. Make sure all the radiator valves are all the way open-some folks think they are proportional thermostats. Check your radiator vents. The main vent could well be part of the problem, but there is a lot between A-Z to check first. Good Luck!

    Plus....

    the rads are usually sized to be hot...all the way across...on the coldest day of the year. As for the short-cycling, good main venst help....and the pigtail under the pressuretrol may be DIRTY/CLOGGED
