Best Duct from Boiker

Member Posts: 5
My boiler uses 8" galvanized ducting but it was placed just a bit off center from the pipe, so the installer had used 2 adjustable elbows, I noticed that there are small stains around a few of the seams. Maybe nothing to worry about and maybe it is. Can anyone reccomend if this is OK to use, and the seams are all flowing the right way, meaning they all overlap the right way heading out. Is there a top brand of this type of duct work, or possibly insulation that I can put over this. Thank you
Bill

Depends on
where the stains are starting from. under some wind and rain conditions small amounnts of water can sneak by the roof jack or storm collar. These leaks could show up at the elbow seams. Often times you will see the water path stained on the pipe above the fittings.
Or you could be condensing inside the flue pipe and leaking around the crimp seams. If this appears to be the case I'd have a qualified service tech check the operating temperatures and boiler cycles, as well as the draft.
Short burner "on cycles", sometimes caused by boiler oversizing or micro zones, can lead to condensation forming in the flue.
Oversized or unlined flues could be another cause of cold flues and condensation. Insufficient draft yet another cause.
A look inside the flue pipe might offer some more clues to condensation problems. Best to get this addressed before it becomes a bigger problem.
