This was actually heating a home and a shop in northern ND. Went through a couple semi loads of coal per winter. No staying clean working on this one.

Coal fired boilers for home use

I presently use a TARM wood coal boiler in parallel with a Weil McClain oil fired boiler for my home heating system.I am interested in finding out who else makes a coal fired boiler for home use and where do I find the information?
I have heard of some different kinds Axman Anderson? Keystone?

    Coal

EFM and Keystone make stoker boilers. I'm not sure if Axemann still makes one. Harman makes a hand fed. I would recommend a stoker myself. see www.efmheating.com

    Boiler

Thanx for the reply. Were you burning anthracite or bituminous coal.

I use pea size anthracite, burns really good and hot .

    Axeman-Anderson still makes the stokers....

They are a low profile deal, no website that I know of.
Still do things the old fashioned way. The boilers are pretty much hand built. It was amazing to me to walk through the factory a few years back and see the craftmanship and love that goes into every unit made. The owner personally came a made sure that I was happy with the service that I got and that I was being taken care of well. (I was there to pickup a stoker boiler)
You can call them @ 570-326-9114.
Those boilers will out live most of us, and they still make parts for the ones they have sold many, many, moons ago....

Just lit up a few Keystokers this week they make a very fine product also, but I don't think that they will sell direct. Need to go through a dealer, distributor.

    Coal

We were burning sub bituminous coal from eastern montana. Hauled 2+ wheel barrows of ash out per day when it was below 0F, which is a lot of the winter in ND. Lots of clinkers.

This was actually my first experience with a boiler. There's nothing like that coal ash smell in the winter. Call me nuts.
