steam traps

So this is a one pipe steam and you want to size the return traps or the spill traps ? If you are replacing the existing traps and the system works fine I would assume they are sized correctly. Beyond that the engineer need to spec them so you are covered if they do not work right.

    steam traps

My company is replacing twin 200HP steam boilers that tie into a main steam header that has two 2" F&T traps dumping into a feed tank. The owners engineer has specified the equipment and indicates changing the traps. I know he never visited the site because of the numerous mistakes made on the drawings concerning placement of equipment.(installing a new expansion tank for the hot water boilers that feed heat exchangers for DHW in the foot print of the domestic water booster pumps; installing a boiler fed tank set up in the area where there is a pit with the vacuum pump; and the list goes on and on) Quite honestly no one knows the EDR and I'm not going to look at 400 appartments and measure rads. The super says one of the old boilers usually is enough to provide heat, but sometimes he runs both on a very cold day. The new system is going to be lead-lag and we're piping it with spill traps on the equalizers rather than twin in the boilers at the return tappings. The former having been tried and proven the right way. Any ideas about how to size the F&T traps?? Also on the same site, but another building we are doing the same type of job installing twin 130 HP boilers and the same question applies there also.

    Need New Steam Traps

I have discovered that my house has no steam traps on the radiators of a two pipe system. The original traps were Trane B2's.This was not a proplem untill I installed a new boiler this fall. Now my system needs the update. My question is, what kind would be the best;Barnes&Jones or Tunstall?? The sales reps all mention that theirs are the best, but what does the wallies say. Does the new capsule work beter or last longer, they sure cost less up front. Or is it good to stick with the classic style that the "dead men" came out with???

I cannot say enough good things about Tunstall

The quality is tops, and the price is great, but best of all, Woody gets the orders out the next day if needed - they are the contractors best friend. Noel put me on to them. Mad Dog
