Running Furnace all day

my contractor will be installing a new buderus boiler
and putting in a hydro air handler in place of my forced air furnace
I just put in my new oil tank for the new boiler my old tank is 30 years old and has less then a 1/4 tank of oil left my installer will install the boiler in a week
can I run my old furnace for a whole day so I can empty
my old tank or will running it 8 hours striate cause
carbon monoxide in the house and crack the heat exchanger
id rather ask you guys first before I do something stupid
when the boiler is in I will take pictures and show you all they are installing the lt160 hw tank with the g115
thanks

That I would guess is about 55 gallon's or so. Even running it constant for 8 hour's with a 1.00 nozzle will only get rid of 8 gallons'...think you either need to pump it over, leaving a small amount and the sludge in the bottom of the tank or pay someone to haul it all off...JMHO...:)
p.s. running that for eight hour's will not crack it as long as your getting rid of the heat somehow. A normal cycle while trying to heat your town...:)0 -
If you have a whole week
Why not just run it for a few hours each morning when it's cold anyway. Seems wasteful to run a furnace and probably have to open the windows wide open. Why doesn't the tank removal contractor just suck out the crap oil at the bottom anyway as part of the replacement?0 -
oh I just told them to install a new boiler and indirect hotwater tank and air handler and ditch the old furnace and I put in a new oil tank
ok well I will run it hard every morning for the next week
with the windows and door open keep the town warm
if I can empty the tank the scrap yard will take it for free.
I had quotes for $400 to remove and it's almost empty so I may as well burn the rest and dump it for free
I don't want the old oil in my new tank with new boiler
thanks0
