Happy customer with Ultra

This smart customer wanted a condensing boiler, and my competitor helped me sell it :) The "other guy" tried to BS him out of it and wanted to do a quickie change-out between the risers. He said the condensers rusted out and weren't to be trusted. He didn't count on Al Gore's Internet to trip up his BS line :)

I'm confident this one will sell a few more for me.

    Looks great...

...a much tidier implementation than which came before you. That rubicks cube of copper over the old heater must have been a maintenance guys private nightmare.

The gold Weil McLain IDWH must do wonders compared to the old heater.

Nice looking install. Do you spray paint some of the black piping?

    Nice

I bet the HO sits in front of that for hours hoping someone upstairs takes a shower so he can watch it work.

    Nope

I'm not a painter, much. The headers are "E-Z Header" and come all shiny like that :) Saved me some major time too.

    Thanks for the compliments, fellas.

    sweet job...

and you did it like weil's docs - though i disagree with them, because their reverse secondary mixing at the tees, means, that the flow's in the pri and sec and not truly isolated - siggi laments about this in one if his articals - so i would have reversed it at the tees so that the flow is in the same direction and also puts the return pump closer to the point-of-zero-pressure-change

    sweet job...

and you did it exactly like weil's docs - though i disagree with them, because their reverse secondary mixing at the tees, means, that the flow's in the pri and sec and not truly isolated - siggi laments about this in one if his articles - so i would have reversed it at the tees so that the flow is in the same direction and also puts the return pump closer to the point-of-zero-pressure-change

also did not see spring checks on the DHW supply/return - the heat from the DHW will “gravity displacement” migrate right up the house returns, wasteful in the winter - a real annoyance in the summer, that’s why I throw away the pumps I get with systems, and use Grundfos 15-58fc’s, they come with built in spring checks, and I add a few spring checks on the returns, and then, the water only goes where “I” tell it to!!! (the 15-58fc only gives slightly less flow on high speed, than the taco the ultra ships with) and with the spring checks in both the boiler pump and the iDHW pump, the “indirect” is effectively isolated when the pumps are off

talk about "nit picking", I love your job, and am green with envy ;) i had a potential ultra customer chicken out and made me put in a CI boiler, ugh

ps – if the customer has teenage girls, you will have to crank up the DHW, and put a mixing valve on the output to get the capacity teenagers want – they take 30min showers!!!, fo-git-abow-eet

    spring checks

Are built into the circ flanges. B&G's Chek-Trol.

We've already done the shower test :) It's actually set lower than the little arrow on the dial !

    all right, way to go!!!

aint it just amazin of how fast aluminum, transfers heat, i think your indirect setup will have a faster recovery rate than an old fashioned direct water heater

there we a lot of boilers at ish (including a new one from Buderus) using aluminum heat exchangers, and there is one comming out soon, from a popular american brand, (sorry, i am not supposed to disclose who) i am hopeing to be a beta tester in my own house

    Kal,

Actually I too, have the temp. on my WM indirect below the arrow..... I have it set so that I can turn the shower the full hot and then back it off just a tick to get the temp. like I like it.... this way I know the grandchildren are safe here.....
Now, the Ultra... I backed the DHW temp. setting back to 90..which allows the boiler to run up to 130 while making hot water.... this assures that the boiler stays condensing very well all the while making DHW AND the recovery has been high enough so that when the children (ages 9 & 11) who already love those 20 min. showers....tkae back to bakcs, I still have plenty of hot water for me.... and BTW did I mention that my wife never has to watch when she does the wash any more????? Yup, she can even wash while the showers are happening..... no problem......
    That's recovery!!!!
