So ya wanted progress pics?

At ISH I was asked to post some progress pics. So here goes...
I'll start with some boiler nudity. Here is the newly arrived Vitola, awaiting its clothing (gasp!) and a hookup. The private-label Weishaupt burner is also looking for some juice.

...the chimney ascends...
...all those wonderful exhaust gases have to go someplace. Here is our chimney in its ascension towards the heavens.
Todays code-compliant chimneys are huge compared to the yesteryear ones... Where the old one was 25x17 for two 12" square flues, our new chimney will only have two 8" round, and one 6" round flues in them. Yet, with all the brick, perlite, and block, it's still going to be much bigger than the larger flue system it replaces.0 -
...slurp!...
... that thirsty Vitola has to be fed. Here are the two 275Gallon Roth units doing the feeding.
The more I look at these tanks, the more I'm convinced that they show the way towards the future. Double-wall, built-in leak detector, easy twinning, built-in handles, etc. is what sets these tanks apart from the current single-wall competition in the US. The nationalists among you will probably appreciate that Roth will start production in the USA sometime in the near future.
ISH answered one of my questions, namely how the tanks maintain the same level within despite not being connected at the bottom. The simple answer (of course!) is a siphoning system. Whenever the boiler is not firing, the siphon equalizes levels between tanks. Better not have too many design days then...;-)0 -
Constantin,
Good choice on the burner. I love the factory burners on these units. Way more quiet than any of the options we've used so far. Naked is a form of art isn't it? Chris0 -
...even the house is getting some clothes...
...as you can see, the siding is going up. Our contractor was lucky enough to score 17' pre-stained clapboards, which will ensure minimal cuts. The folks putting the stuff up are sealing all window frames with caulk to the Tyvek before putting the boards down. Between the foam on the inside, the Tyvek, and the sealing, this should be one tight house.0 -
