Went on a no heat call yesterday . Got to the job ands determined the unit was air boubnd. There was a couple of things i notced when i was purgeing the system. The air vent and the circulator had a geat deal of mineral deposits on them . I changed the airvent and continue to purge the zone.(system was a single zone)both the supply and the return pipeping got really hot . So i sit there thru a couple of cycles every thing seemed find.Later that night same problem.I checked the voltage at the aquastat C1 C2 and voltage at the circulator itself each read 120.Oh i just thought shouldnt i be checking the amprage at the circulator?? Man what went wrong.

question
was the system airbound again? Was the circ running? Was it actually working? Did you have to repurge the system to get hot water to flow again?0 -
Yes the sytem became airbound again and as far as the circulator running i checked for voltage @ the ciculator it read 120 ,but after i got home i though that maybe i should have checked for ampre instead, correct? I didnt go on the call back but the person that went did not change the circulator and it must be fine i haven,t heard anything else from the costumer. He stated on his paperwork that he did a minor repair.Do u think air could have gotten back into the system due to loosen bolts on the circulator?? I mention befor that there was a lot of mineral deposits on circulator gaskets which means it was leaking at one time. And this was a taco circulator u couldnt just look at it and tell if its running like the B@G 100.0 -
Did you get air out of the system when you purged it?

well
It could have been you had a small leak or it could have been when you purged it you didn't get all the trapped air. When you purged the system did you do it warm or cold? Did you by chance put a guage on it to see if it was leaking? Can you check with the other tech to find out what the minor repair was? It's the best way to learn, "hand's on"...gotta love it...:)0 -
Yes when i purged it there was air.but i think the water was warm, but the pipeping was very hot.should i have waited till the water turn hot. Also where would i put a gauge on to check for leaks in the pipeing?0 -
Was it a baseboard zone ?
Monoflow zone ? If it's one loop of baseboard I would purge the zone out with higher pressure . I try to keep it around 20 to 25 psi with a bucket under the relief valve pipe . You'd be amazed at how much more air gets purged with higher pressure .0
