flow checks on ultra install

Member Posts: 2
Doing my first Ultra install (of course it is in my own home), and I have a couple of quick Q's. First are the Taco 219 horizontal swet-checks acceptable, and second I cannot comprehend why I am installing a flow check on the supply previous to the loop connector. I have read many great items here and hope to not only help myself, possibly others as well. Thanks in advance.

Flow check on Ultra
Joe, Why would you want to install a taco 219 on the ultra. The Taco 219 is 3/4" sweat-check the smallest piping on any Ultra is 1". You would be restricting your flow. If you are installing the Ultra 80 you should use the taco 241 1" flow check0 -
Check the boiler manual......
pages 13-17...... you MUST!!!!! install the piping EXACTLY!!!
as shown there.......DO NOT....down size the piping.. it will not work... been there done that.....you got to have lots a flow through this boiler, the heat x of this boiler is so eff. at heat transfer, flow is super important.
If you do not have the flow you need this boiler will short cycle....even with the modulation.... it will not back off fast enough, it will just shut down and cycle on and off.... not the way you want it to work.

Sorry my description was a bit vague, the sweat checks were to used on my 3/4 zones, however in the manuel it states that the flow checks should have weighted seats, therefore my question as I had ordered the stock prior to delivery of the boiler and manuel. I have increased to 11/4" on the supply and return to and from the zone manifolds.
thanks again for the responses
