No Heat

Hi guys, i'ave got a problem on the 2nd floor there's no heat. I thought there might be air in the pipe, so i bleed from the vent on the baseboard. Sure enough there was air and then there was hot water. When i close the vents on 2 of the 3 baseboards it goes cold. So i continue to bleed for a long time(more than an hour between the 2) and it did the same thing, hot, shut the vent, cold. The third unit is a fin type convector with about 2 or 3 passes before it goes to the return. This one does not even get warm, no water when open the bleed vent, valve to unit open. The boiler maintains 180F hot water, with 20psi, t-stat at highest setting. The pump works, checked, and all the radiators in the basement and 1st floor are hot. Need some help, thanks.

the pressure at your boiler. If you open the bleed valve and don't get any air or water, either

    1) water pressure not high enough to lift it to that convector, or

    2) something is clogged in the convector or the piping to the convector.

You may need to call someone in to purge your system and check your fill pressure.

Do you have zone valves? Seperate thermostats for each floor? Sounds like there's a blockage in the piping. If you eventually got hot water when you bled it, that means at least one side is allowing water to pass. No circulation with the bleeder closed means one side (supply or return) is likely closed off somehow. Could be the valve on the convector came apart internally and even though the handle turns the gate stays shut. If your lucky it's just a zone valve problem. Did you confirm the gauge reading with a seperate pressure gauge? They sell something at Home Depot for that. Could be your boiler gauge is stuck or you're reading the wrong needle. Probably your going to need to call in a professional anyway.
