where you all live is decidedly warmer than around here for the most part.so i am asking have any of you installed these type of blinds ,to say close.... as the suns azmiuth changes to reduce direct sunlight on surfaces and ameliorate direct solar gain in rooms with large expanses of glass that have radiant floors? is it sucessful stradgey or is there hidden drawbacks to this "designe Feature" ? the hrv would beable to redistribute the additional heat Gain to a certain extent. Do any of you remember the manufacturers name on the blinds that do indeed work ? it has been over 38 years since i've seen these type of blinds and my memory is a bit foggy as to the manufacturers name.

    Pella...

Pella makes them, enclosed in a window! Very nice, but a bit pricey.

Electric Venetian blinds are pretty easy to find--they're not in the home improvement centers (at least not around here) but they are available through blind and/or drapery shops.

Be forewarned that some of the new entries in the field are almost "toy-like". They cost a LOT less than the high-end, but I'd worry about reliability. Also they are generally a "closed" system that cannot be integrated with outside controls. The high-end systems are intended to be operated with outside controls--generally standard wall current.

I feel for 'ya when it comes to unintended solar gain. Really hard to control in radiantly heated spaces. Perhaps control packages for such already exist, but I haven't seen them. You'll likely have to develop your own from available components.

IMHO Venetian-type blinds--particularly metal--won't be too good in this regard. The radiation from the inside surface of the glass will just heat them and turn them into rather effective radiators. Fabric will be significantly better as it won't accept the radiation too well to begin with.
