Aprilaire Electronic Thermostat

I once again find myself turning to the wall for help. I have an Aprilaire model 8534 electonic thermostat. This thermostat has the ability to give me the outside temperature but I need the optional model 8041 remote outdoor sensor for this. Aprilaire tells me that this product is no longer available and that don't have an optional parts locator for this. I know that someone- somewhere has one so I am turning to the wall for help. I am located in Mass. Thanks in advance. Dan

I can't help with the AprilAire part,

but Honeywell's new Vison Pro thermostat has that capability, too, part number C7089U1006 (Outside sensor)with the TH8320U1008 thermostat. Sorry, our sensor won't work with their stat. Available from any Honeywell distributor, no retail equivalent.

    Bill, 2 Vision Pro questions...

    on the Vision Pro multistage.

If using as dual fuel control, it is designed for either heat pump or fuel furnace but not both? Meaning there is no 2nd stage if the heat pump alone can't keep up?

When outdoor sensor says too cold for heat pump, is AUX energized? But in Em Heat, E is energized first then AUX so I can't use this to control a 2 stage gas furnace too?

To the original poster, I'll ask around here and see if any supplier has an old Aprilaire sensor lying around.

    Robertshaw

Contact Andy at Jackson Systems. He said this is a Robertshaw part made for Aprilaire and they have in stock.

I was about to ask for a picture so somone could match it up. i figgured it must be a honeywell, white-rodgers, or robertshaw branded for arpilaire (and usually makred up in price...). Also look a the insstall docs..honewyell has their temp/resistance curves in theirs so you can match up that way too. Another option is a $15 or so radio shack thermometer with a remote probe mounted outdoors..

Oh, and while billw is here, i have a honewell chronotherm 4 with the outdoor sensor and its reading jumps by several degress if you press the button then press it again a couple seconds later especially when it is very cold. Is this just an artifact of the curve of the thermister being pretty flat in cold tempuratures?

I want to thank everyone for there help in finding an outdoor sensor. I did call up jacksonsystems and they were very accomodating. They came up with a RobertShaw part number SL-ODT and they even had it in stock for 49 dollars. I was being stuborn in wanting my thermostat to be able to do everything that it was suppose to do but it doesn't make sense, even to me, to pay a lot more for something when I can go to Radio Shack and get a reader that will do a few things more for less money. Again, thanks for the time. Dan
