you may have a hot water boiler. Can you post a couple of pictures? Someone here should be able to identify your system.
If your new to the home, you may want to find a heating profesional in your area to check things out and familiarize you with it.
Try the "Find a Professional" link in the menu to the left.
Good luck,
Jim

Squirting Valve
Hi All,
Great board! Thanks...
I just moved into a 1916 home with two pipe steam heat. Two of the radiators (out of about 12) have a vent with a little knob you can turn with your fingers. The bedroom one, the furthest away from the boiler, squirts water when opened. One in the living room (of two) just vents air when opened. Is this a problem? They both heat up just fine.
Also, there is no glass gauge with water in it on my gas boiler that I can see? How do I know if there is enough water in the beastie to fill it or clean it or just for proper maintainence?
Thanks for the board and your time!

You could run into a thing......
that i call the cycle of Rounds or as the people in India say round and round and see you round....were a person such as yourself to begin "Bleeding theSystem" he may find it becomes a full time occupation ...it is decidedly worth the few dollars to hire compotent help ...with thier own tools...to deal with your Particular concerns....then likely you will not have to live that experience...especially if you have a well and pump on the potable water....a low pressure limit switch coupled with no check or back flow or some times even both...could turn the experience into some very bad full time day and night mare....0 -
No Problem
You have no guage glass because you've got a circulating hot water system, not steam. Just let all the air out and you'll be fine.
As a new homeowner you will need to find a professional that you can call for maintenance & repairs, but for now, just keep that number where you know where to find it.0
