Pilot outage

Pilot goes out between burner cycle on a Miller Gas Furnace in a mobil home. Turned pilot flame up but still goes out, but not every time it cycles.

Most likely a weak thermocouple that needs replaced.0 -
tcouple
You can check to see how many millivolts the tcouple is generating-if it is within range, the problem is the gas valve itself. Good luck!0 -
Clean and change
Sure, the first and cheapest thing to do is to clean the pilot and change the thermocouple, if that works you're done. If it doesn't and it often doesn't on mobile homes, has the gas valve been changed recently and is the air inlet to the top or bottom of the furnace open? And the most common problem is all the supply air getting back to the furnace? Are the ducts clean and still connected, if the trailer door to the furnace cabinate is held open does the blower coming on pull it shut. Any new exhaust fans operating?0 -
Another thing you might want to check is your gas pressure. When the main burner comes on it robs pressure from the pilot and the pilot goes out. Make sure you have at least 5 in. w.c. coming into valve with all appliances operating. If not look for a restriction in the supply. At the same time, you should have 3 1/2 in. w.c. at outlet to gas valve or in the manifold.0 -
Ernie is this on
natural gas or LP gas? Do you know how to take millivolt readings? If not I will walk you through it. Do you have a multi meter?
There are many causes of pilot outage, it sounds like you may have a combustion problem as the pilot lights and holds the safety in. If it then goes out it is more than likely something other than the thermocouple. It is still as someone else said not a bad idea to clean the pilot and install a new thermocouple. It is a good idea to check the draft at the draft hood and also if you have a combustion tester to connect it up to the unit and test.
Get back to me with some more info and I will walk you through the procedure to test the thermocouple.0
