New Installation

Take a look at the pictures of this new installation and provide comment on the following:

1) Height of draft regulator (much less than 18 inches minimum required by manufacturer);
2) Piping the mixing valve in front of the swing out burner door;
3) Circulator pump overhead and installed on the supply side rather than on return side (is this an acceptable option?);
4) 3 section boiler feeding 167 feet of baseboard cast-iron radiator;
5) Anything you see which will affect performance or efficiency or boiler longevity?

    I'll bite...

    Cement the oil lines into the floor, install screws in the smoke pipe, turn pump rightside up, mixing valve negates firebox cleaning, isolate backflow preventer with a valve, install EMT conduit and not tape BX to the pipes for starters........Robert O'Connor/NJ

    red switch

    that electrical box could be mounted a little better, and lose the metal strapping holding the copper pipe.
    I hate to beat up a fellow installers work when I know nothing about the circumstances. Looks like that basement could use a little neating up as well. Best wishes J.Lockard

    Uragmania ?? Coulda come up with something better than that.

    I believe that this "consumer" knows the answers to his own questions. That being said, whoever owns this mess needs to find a professional to make necessary repairs, which will be to rip out and start from scratch. There is NO other way. The upsidedown 007 is a nice touch, especially with the perforated band iron hanger on the copper. Tell the next guy to open the install manual and take a peek (even if its only for the pictures). Also, and this is very important, no beers till AFTER the job is done.

    The job doesn't exactly exude quality - did you hire a contractor with a reputation for doing quality work or the one with the lowest bid?

    my thoughts are

    that this was probably the low bid. just looks like work we follow. unfortunately this happens alot. alot of people just look at the price, they dont compare apples to apples. then they spend more to fix than it cost for the initial install. marc.

    New INstall

    I am new to the buisiness myself, but that install looks terrible. If you did it yourself and it works, fine. If you are inquiring because you feel somebody did a crappy job and you are waiting for someone to tell you, here it is.

    Who did the installation?

    A relative of mine did the installation. Obviously his talk is better than his actions. Thanks for the input, now I know what I have to do!
