Adding Radiant heat to existing system in basement

I have an existing boiler system in the upstairs of my house. I have had experts in and they have said that I am ok to tie into the existing boiler and heat the basement. Can we use the flexible piping that is being used in driveways and under floors? I think it would be easier to work with since my basement is partially done.

    Most likely

Assuming you have a hot water boiler adding a basement zone of some sort shouldn't add too much load, most basements, being mostly below ground don't need all that much heat. The "experts" should have told you that the always good idea low water cut off is required by code if the heat units you add are below the top of the boiler.

  • Also I hope the experts mentioned that you will need to mix down the water temperatures if you're installing radiant in a basement, and that you will probably have to protect your boiler against low water return temperatures. It's not quite as simple as just teeing some PEX pipe into your existing plumbing.
