Summer Winter System

I have a boiler that does my hot water and heating in the winter. The previouse owner also installed an electric hot water heater in the house. The Cold water runs into the Electric hot water heater then into the boiler.... SHOULD IT BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND? Should in not go through the boiler first the be stored in the electric hot water tank?
