GE off the floor

these like crazy this year . With crude oil prices skyrocketing it aint a bad idea . This old GE had 2 circs at the boiler , a rarity . It also had an electric heater tied into it upstairs . We took that money killer out also .

Comments

  • Weil Mclain 3L

made special for this type of home , with a very skinny middle section . We used 2 Taco IFC pumps for better clearance to the ceiling . Getting to the chimney and top of this Weil is actually easier than with the old GE .

    ? sore back??

OMG you find some strange ones!!! You sir do incredible work. How in the world is the plate supported? That and where did you hide the expansion tank? I'm guessing it's on top of the boiler? Bet your looking forward to a weekend..:)

    Ron,I don't understand,they're only 50 years old!

I just have to know...How did the techs EVER GET TO THE BURNER with that old expansion tank installed?

For the uninitiated, the G.E. was a downfire boiler and the burner was directly behind that expansion tank. Even with a replacement Beckett or Carlin burner (not to mention the original low pressure G.E. burner), THAT WAS the access!.

How did these beasts ever get serviced? Inquiring minds want to know. Nice job! Chris

    GE value?

    Maestro Ron jr,

Your discipline to plumb level and square equals excellence.

Is my GE increasing in value every time you "extract and dispose"?

    al
  • Oh yeah

My back is shot . I need a good week off to relax . The expansion tank is up top , in a 1/2 inch black tee off the air elimination tapping . I can't wait for Friday , I need a few cold Yuenglings . Even a Colt 45 - the malt liquor or the gun . Thanks alot 1chmb .
  • Your GE

will be considered an antique pretty soon Al , we're replacing these at a frantic pace . The vast majority are still running when we change em too . Thanks Al .
  • Techheat

I don't know why we switched . I didn't even know the brand name of the new deaerator , thanks . They do look more solid built than the Tigerloop . Thanks alot .
  • Chris

The Beckett sits sideways on the boiler , so getting to the changeable parts is tough, but not impossible . I gotta hand it to the servicemen who work on these boilers , as well as in the other Levitt homes . They have to be part contortionist , part mad scientist to get this stuff to run clean . I once cleaned one of these for my good friend , and I'll never do it again , I hope . Thanks alot Chris .

  • The boiler alone

weighs close to 600 lbs . Add on all the trimmings and its over 700 . There is a steel boiler we see every once in a while as a replacement , the old downfired Blueray , but part of the steel shell needs to be cut and some of the jacket need to be left off . Not the best fit . I didn't get the brand name of that circ , but it doesn't look familiar , does it ? That oil dearator is a job saver with the old original oil lines we see connected to the original oil tanks buried in the front lawn . My guess would be that I install between 100 to 150 boilers a year . Theres ALOT of homes on Long Island . Thanks alot Kevin .

    Ron/Kevin.

That old circulator was made by Suntstrand. One of the first wet rotor pumps on the market . Chris

    Footballs

Yeah, we used to call those Sunstrand circs footballs due to the shape. They were European. I got a couple of them around my museum pile.

I guess I ma the only one who picked up an the BIG news.

TACO IFC pumps, good one ya man. Looks like the company gave you the opurtunity to make oyur job a little easier. Thast one less peice of equipment to install. Should make it a little easier for you in those " big open spaces " you get to work in :)

    Great job as usual.

Its getting tough to come up with new compliments :)

    Hey Milne....

Pay attention! He started using them a couple of posted installs back. DETAILS my friend.

Claimed that he had to do it under the guise of, "Oh, I didn't know I ordered THOSE!" Time and money saved, what a concept. Chris

    Standard response!!

Need I say anything more? Think Walker.....

Wasn't it nice of Mr. Jeff W. to compliment you earlier? Stuff occurs. Happy Weekend!
  • Clammy

There are actually 5 or 6 of us who install these boilers , as well as other types of heating equipment , at our shop . I'm the only one that takes pics though . I used to keep an annual planner to write down what we did that day , but this is much easier and has more details . I wonder if any company takes pics of their customers systems to have on computer at their office . Could make troubleshooting and having the right equipment easier with a pic on hand . Thanks again Clammy .
  • I used my last IFC yesterday

for a grand total of 10 . Now we got to wait till the supply house restocks what we used . They still aren't a hot seller out here . So what's this sparky stuff I'm hearing ?

    Ron,

As Miss Emily Luttela used to say on Saturday Night Live....Nevermind!

I know Milne will be sending messages on the "coconut telegraph", but I will admit to "letting the smoke" out of a control Earlier today. Stuff occurs! Humbly, Chris
